Who doesn’t love a crumble? Who doesn’t love toffee apples ? Who doesn’t love a tart? A simple classic tart, piled with apples in a toffee sauce, with crumble on the top to give a little bit more texture and flavour. It’s perfect sat on cream (don’t put cream on the top of it) or with a blob of ice cream on the side. Dig in my friends! You saw it here first!
By making this dish, you will acquire and practice the following skills:
- Make a simple crumble topping with flour, butter, and sugar, chilling it for texture.
- Prepare puff pastry base and keep it chilled for best rise.
- Peel and slice Bramley apples into thick wedges for baking.
- Cook apples briefly in toffee sauce of butter, sugar, syrup, and spices to start softening.
- Layer pastry with toffee apples and crumble topping.
- Bake until pastry edges rise and crumble turns golden.
- Judge doneness by colour, rise, and aroma.
- Serve warm with cream or ice cream, or adapt into individual tarts or Wellingtons.
- Store crumble separately for freezer use.
